On March 16 and 17, 2026, the 34th International Crane Conference, one of the most important professional events in the field of lifting technology in Europe, took place at the University of Bochum. This year's edition attracted the attention not only of traditional participants from research, industry and practice, but also of the wider professional public - thanks to the provocative subtitle: "Megatrend AI - Will cranes soon develop and operate on their own?" The question of to what extent AI can actually replace or supplement established development methods and best operating practices that have been proven in practice in the lifting technology industry for decades has sparked lively discussions. A representative of SLT personally attended the conference and brought valuable insights and ideas that will undoubtedly be beneficial to our work in the field of lifting and transport technology.
